Social Media on the GO!

This post will cover the presentation that I gave on Friday, July 23rd. The sweaty palmed me gave a presentation for the SCSL Summer Camp sessions (the second one!) on the uses of Twitter, Foursquare and GoWalla. I spend about 15 minutes to give my prezi presentation and found out the subtitle of my presentation: WE FREAKING LOVE PREZI. Once i showed them the general outline of prezi and then went back to explaining each service, i took a few questions and had an iPhone handy to show typical use. Curtis helped with the timing because he wanted to make sure that we gave them enough time to play with the location based media (or prezi). The reaction was mild but it would have helped if people had actually brought their own cell phones to test everything out (oops). After plenty of time to test everything out, we got some feed back (see the picture below) on how they could use these options and what could be changed about the presentation. Overall, great experience.

Total hours so far - 19.5

the final prezi:

Zoomified

Two weeks ago, I created my first Prezi draft for the presentation of Social Media on the GO! This web based presentation site allows you to create non-linear presentations where you can freely zoom in and out of your presentation full of details, pictures, videos and more! Here is the link to my fist draft. The path i created was simple but some of the pictures were not helpful. I worked on those in the final draft.

Where was I?

Hours worked today 2.5 - worked on outline for the hour long presentation/class and caught up on goals with Curtis. Enter sites found and outline here:
Twitter (intro, display of library uses, images) - 15 minutes
Check-in based social media (brief overview, video, security issues)
Foursquare (intro, uses in marketing/incentives , uses in libraries, howcast video) - 15
GoWalla(intro, uses in libraries, trips and pick up items) - 15 mins
time to mess with the tech (make a twitter acct, check in with foursquare mobile)

Hours from ALA : 2 at the Social Media vs the search engine session :
Sadly, this session was not really helpful since half of the session involved an example of how to know your audience - specifically teens in high school and college, 30 minutes was focused on facebook being important to reach a younger audience and how twitter helped. The last 30 minutes was an unhelpful Q&A session. I really wish there was some talk about techniques that help social media beat out search engines.

Hours from last week: 1.5 from : 8 Bit Librarian and a GoWalla experiment (checked in at Tios, found item, picture of the SC State library map) , #inatweet meme

After two national conferences, one national holiday and some extra work hours, i'm finally back on the road to redemption (or well work of some sort...)

Total hours worked: 11
